COVER REVEAL!

Hello! Big day today. My website is online and now I have a cover to show you!

No ARCs available yet, but I am very excited to reveal both the cover and the flat cover copy of my upcoming novel, INSIGNIA. For context, please see ‘The Best Writerly Advice I’d Give my Younger Self’ on Ellen Oh’s Blog. Needless to say, it took seven books to get here, and I am enjoying every step of the way.

My preferences for this cover were ‘no people, no people parts’, and I drew this very ugly eagle type thing. Fortunately, an artist with significantly more talent than me interpreted my ugly eagle thing into a very lovely eagle type thing… Thanks, Mr. Yuen!

Here it is, internet!

IT’S WORLD WAR III
THE ENEMY IS WINNING
WHAT IF THE GOVERNMENT’S SECRET WEAPON IS YOU?

More than anything, Tom Raines wants to be important, though his shadowy life is anything but that. For years, Tom’s drifted from casino to casino with his unlucky gambler of a dad, gaming for their survival. Keeping a roof over their heads depends on a careful combination of skill, luck, con artistry, and staying invisible.

Then one day, Tom stops being invisible. Someone’s been watching his virtual-reality prowess, and he’s offered the incredible—a place at the Pentagonal Spire, an elite military academy. There, Tom’s instincts for combat will be put to the test, and if he passes, he’ll become a member of the Intrasolar Forces, helping to lead his country to victory in World War Three. Finally, he’ll be someone important: a superhuman war machine with the tech skills that every virtual-reality warrior dreams of. Life at the Spire holds everything that Tom’s always wanted—friends, the possibility of a girlfriend, and a life where his every action matters—but what will it cost him?

Gripping and provocative, S. J. Kincaid’s futuristic thrill ride of a debut crackles with memorable characters, tremendous wit, and a vision of the future that asks startling, timely questions about the melding of humanity and technology.

  1. IT’S STUNNING!!!!! I love it! Oh man they did such an amazing job! And they listened to your requests on the cover? I’m blown away! I’m so excited for you!!!!!!

  2. I followed the link where you talked about the best writer advice to give your younger self. And it really struck a cord with me.

I’ve had lots of ideas come an go. And this is the one that felt like it’ll be the one; that I would not ever be able to come up with something as brilliant as this again.

But it’s nice to remember that even though this book doesn’t works out, I should still keep pushing on and improve as a writer.

I love reading about different authors road to publication, and I haven’t read anything like yours. So thank you for sharing.

  3. Thank you, Bigfoot, Anne, Nicole, Anna, Amanda, Shari, Sarah, Jodi, Zoraida, Jennie, Eve and roro!

Yay, Hannah! This premise is definitely up your alley, then… Though I must say, a techie will probably see mistakes my only mildly-techie self sometimes makes…

Thank you so much, Stephanie! And thanks for your WoW post!

Yay, thanks, Ello! It’s been cool taking this journey at the same time as you are.

Thanks, Kimberly! The eagle is definitely much more elegant and lovely than the ugly one I originally drew. 😉

Thanks so much, Penelope! I think the people thing all depends (look at Kathleen Peacock’s incredible cover), but in this story’s case, I just didn’t feel people would be right for it.

Thanks, Tracey! I’m so glad you’re intrigued!

Wahoo, thanks so much, Laurel! Love my awesome KT Books folks!

Yay, K.M.! I must go check out your book on Goodreads now!

Thanks so much, Anonymous! It’s definitely written for boys and girls both, so I’m thrilled you think so.

Thanks so much, Amy! It’s been a long road for us both, huh?

Thank you, Fiona, and I’m glad the link was helpful to you. I hope it helps… You know, the whole time I was trying and failing, I figured if I ever did succeed, it would be that much sweeter– and it is. Don’t give up.
